JAMES E. WILLIAMS
Light of the Andes: In Search of Shamanic Wisdom in Peru
J.E. WILLIAMS has shared part of his life with indigenous tribes, medicine men, and shamans. In a series of visions, he realized that a new, deeply mystical, eco-spiritual path was emerging. Born from indigenous traditions of North and South America, it emphasizes balanced emotions, ethical discipline, wholesome conduct, and thoughtful discernment.
He has a Doctor of Oriental Medicine degree and more than twenty-five years experience practicing integrative medicine as an internationally known expert in viral immunity. In addition to scientific papers and articles on sustainable medicine, ethnobotany, and biodiversity, his books include: Viral Immunity, Prolonging Health, Beating the Flu, The Andean Codex, Light of the Andes, and Winter Rain. He teaches at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Division of Complementary and Integrative Medicine, and NOVA Southeastern University. After 28 years in California, he now lives along the Gulf of Mexico in southern Florida, but spends much of his time in the Peruvian upper Amazon and Andes among traditional indigenous shamans, where he continues non-profit work and teaches Earth-based wisdom and heart-centered spirituality. |
LIGHT OF THE ANDES is a spiritual journey to Apu Ausangate, the most sacred mountain of the Incas, to learn the true secret of the Andes. After a series of dreamlike encounters with mystical beings in Peru, J. E. Williams (aka Santiago) and his mentor, the Q'ero shaman Sebastian, are ushered to the glacial sloops of Ausangate.
On these remote sloops, he is tested to his physical and mental limits by the effects of high altitude, cold, and isolation. Then, after a series of traditional preparatory rituals, he encounters the deity in an unexpected way. The author returns bearing a message from the Apu, echoed by the Q'ero people: Ayni, the original idea found in nature that guides people to follow principle-guided lives in harmony with all things. |
